Friday fly-ins

(-20) degrees Celsius = -4 degrees Fahrenheit That is the temp it takes to keep the school kids indoors at recess and noon and to suspend the daycare kids from going outside to play. Seeing as it has been close to -28 with wind chills the kids are itching to be outside. The river has ice all the way across it now, it just isn't very thick yet. My DS when asked last night what he wanted Santa to bring him, tells me in great detail. A WHITE train with many colored polko-dots on it. Now just how is Santa supposed to come up with that? I need a cookie recipe for the bake sale for the daycare party. I am not much of a cook so it needs to be straightforward and simple. Tonight is the open house for work, I will be glad when it is over. Tomorrow is the craft show. Small home based craft businesses have stuff for sale, looking forward to it. Sunday is the singing Christmas Tree at church. I am taking DD and Mom to this one, and then next weekend I am taking DS and I to it. Mom is k

Funnies for the day

The Why's of Men 1. WHY DO MEN BECOME SMARTER DURING SEX? (because they are plugged into a genius) 2. WHY DON'T WOMEN BLINK DURING SEX? (they don't have enough time) 3. WHY DOES IT TAKE 1 MILLION SPERM TO FERTILIZE ONE EGG? (they don't stop to ask directions) 4. WHY DO MEN SNORE WHEN THEY LIE ON THEIR BACKS? (because their balls fall over their butt-hole and they vapor lock) (You're laughing, aren't you?!?!) 5. WHY WERE MEN GIVEN LARGER BRAINS THAN DOGS? (so they won't hump women's legs at cocktails parties) 6. WHY DID GOD MAKE MEN BEFORE WOMEN? (you need a rough draft before you make a final copy) 7. HOW MANY MEN DOES IT TAKE TO PUT A TOILET SEAT DOWN? (don't know.....it never happened) 8. WHY DID GOD PUT MEN ON EARTH? (because a vibrator can't mow the lawn) (this particular one reminded me of a story at Texas Scrapfest) Remember, if you haven't got a smile on your face and laughter in your heart...Then you are just an old sou

Now this could be mine, but it isn't. The funny thing is I know where that picture came from. It is the renewal subscription card from Scuba Diver. Just struck me as weird that I agree totally with the secret, it could be mine, but isn't, and I have access to that card every month. LOL

This is Pokey he is a Ty Baby. My son has had him since he was six months old. I had him, and when I realized the attachment I got a spare. One could be in the wash, while DS had the other. When you have a kid with asthma the stuffies need washed often. When we were at West Edmonton Mall in October DS lost one. It was a very long night until Daddy brought up the spare the next day. I tryed to find another one, then Jennifer suggested ebay, so I bought one. It came. Last Friday when DS threw up all over Pokey, the new one was brought out. He is so soft Mommy, how did Pokey get new whiskers Mommy, he is so colourful Mommy. One happy little boy that he had a Pokey. What a difference four years of weekly washing makes. Well on Saturday DH took the kids out to the farm to visit Grandma Lilly. Guess what DH did. Forgot Pokey. So the old one comes back out. DS is a little confused by the changes, but I overhear him Saturday night giving Pokey a hug, and saying I missed the &q

Oh Man, it is snowing

It was just a light powder when I left home this morning, now most things are white. There is ice on the river. Geese are finally flying south, I hope they all make it safely, it is late in the season, for them to be leaving. Why do I find it so hard to reach out and ask for help, when I need it. I withdraw totally into myself, and always try to deal with it myself. Was it because I was so isolated as a child. Was it because I never had affection demonstrated to me. Is it just that I am an introvert. I wonder. I get hurt, and I cannot express it to the person that did the hurting. I just withdraw and chalk it up to "that's life". Self esteem is a weird thing. Totally weird thing. I can be strong very very strong carrying the "weight" of the issues myself, but deep down inside I do not feel worthy. That scares me. The few people that I have ever shared that sentitment to have ended up using it against me. Yes I do have trust issues, I wonder why.

You are Not Alone - The Eagles

Say goodbye to all your pain and sorrow Say goodbye to all those lonely nights Say goodbye to all your blue tomorrows Now you're standing in the light I know sometimes you feel so helpless Sometimes you feel like you can't win Sometimes you feel so isolated You'll never have to feel that way again You are not alone You're not alone Never thought I'd find the road to freedom Never thought I'd see you smile again Never thought I'd have the chance to tell you That I will always be your friend You are not alone You're not alone

Even more fun

And that is not a beer bottle, it happens to be a bottle of Captain Morgans. LOL

Been quite a week:

My Mom's older brother died on November 10. The day before Canadian Remembrance Day. He was a Korean Veteran. He was buried in a full military service on Thursday. Friday our computers at work crashed, and have been down. Lost time, lost money. I still cannot shake this sickness I have, sinuses, cough, runny, stuffy, just yucky feeling. The last race of the Nascar season. YUCK. Why even watch, same old same old, probably the only time in my life as a fan I was actually wishing Jeff Gordon would lead some laps. Would rather have seen him with the title than Jimmie. Then Tony crashes. Somewhere during the commentary, the comment was made that this is the very last chance Tony will have to win. They come back a little later and qualify that they meant last chance to win in a Chevy. But I really wonder, just how going to Toyota will impact his career. Scary. I still think Tony's greed at Kansas cost him the title. Remember that commercial of Dale Jr, joking that he

LIttle Guy

Had his day at a dayhome yesterday. He came running to my arms and I asked him how his day went. Not very well he said. Talked to the daycare owner today to tell her I was looking elsewhere. She told me the one problem child is leaving end of November, and the other two problem ones have been given an 8 week probation to improve. I am so torn on what to do. So torn. Dentist for him this morning, really nice checkup, Mommy needs to brush better apparently. No cavities yet, but there is some calcification. OUCH. He is working on his wink, he can wink right, but not left yet. So cute. DD lost another tooth last night, the toothfairy told me she left a $10. DD tells me this morning that the toothfairy left her five....mmmm...little bit of a test there. They grow up so fast, I need to enjoy them more.

Mickey Mouse - beware ..........

It is official, I finally booked the trip to Disneyland in February. I really really wanted a warm birthday for a change, so this year I am getting it. The delay has been DH. He didn't want to go, then he did, then he didn't, back and forth, over and over. arggggggg. Then he had to get approval from his work, and they kept telling him he couldn't book in 2008 till 2008. Not good enough. So Dinseyland, we are on our way. February 7 through the 16th. I am so looking forward to it.

Scrapbooking Article in local Paper

Cancer victim reaches out to other children Photo submitted RCMP members Rick Hawkins, left, and Rod Carleton with Brody Chapman at the Stollery Childrenâ??s Hospital in Edmonton: a photo for his scrapbook. Nov 13 2007 By SUSAN ZIELINSKI Advocate staff Brody Chapman has another photo to add to his scrapbook. The 11-year-old leukemia patient from Eckville was at Edmonton’s Stollery Children’s Hospital recently when RCMP officers, dressed in red serge, stopped by to visit patients. Brody started scrapbooking when his aunt gave him a camera and scrapbook kit after he was diagnosed in April. “He’s had a lot of fun with it,” said his mother Carmen Chapman. Other young patients who saw him putting together his scrapbook thought it was cool, too, she said. Now Brody is raising money for his project Scrapping for Cancer to give every child diagnosed with cancer a free scrapbook kit. About one in 300 people under age 20 are diagnosed each year with cancer in Canada, so Brody wants to raise $12

Scary day for Mommy tomorrow........

My little guy is having a test day at a dayhome tomorrow. From an advertisement I saw in the paper. A very scary day for me. We will see if he will actually stay there tomorrow at dropoff. We went over and met her last week, and he did not want to leave. But who knows. I am a full time working Mom. I have had bad experiences in the last 7 years with dayhomes, registered and private, and daycares. It is a scary scary proposition. He has been at this daycare since April of 2005. I constantly get the please don't make me go mommy, I not go mommy, the tears, they just rip me to shreds. For the last couple of months though, since holidays ended, there has been, staff change after staff change, he moved up a room just before holidays, the daycare is for sale, and I get comments from him. J hit me Mommy. Did you tell an adult? Yes Mommy, who did you tell? He tells me C. So I ask C the next day, she gets a weird look on her face and says no, I didn't see anything. The c

You keep on watching even though you know what the outcome will be. Thank heavens there is only one race left this year. If there are a streak of 5 in a row I will hurl. This was in the political cartoon area of the paper. I had to laugh.

On Flanders Field

In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- McCrae's "In Flanders Fields" remains to this day one of the most memorable war poems ever written. It is a lasting legacy of the terrible battle in the Ypres salient in the spring of 1915. Here is the story of the making of that poem: Although he had been a doctor for years and had served in the South African War, i

Pittance in Time by Terry Kelly

This was played at the Remembrance Day Ceremony at DD school today.

Bank Account of Life

Bank Account of Life A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably coifed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window. "I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. "Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait." "That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged. It's how

Remembrance Day Canadian Style

The end of the war came on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour. We were taught this in school, the sad thing is I can remember that but I can never remember whether it was the first or second world war. I believe it was the first. Canada recognized all of our war veterans past, present, living, or dead on this day. It is a statutory holiday, and is a very reverend experience. My maternal grandfather fought in WWI. He was a sniper for the advance troops. He was shot a number of times. He lost fingers because of it, and lived the balance of his life with a bullet against the lining of his heart, back then operations are not what they are today. He went into the war at 16 lieing about his age, a full red head and when he got out he was totally white haired. His sons followed in his footsteps during the Korean War. Even though Canada was there in a peacekeeping role, it was still war. One of my Uncles never fully recovered from the killing he had to do to survive. Afgan
