Now that the cortisone kicked in

Work seems to be kicking my butt, in December of all times.

2nd coldest place in the WORLD

NOT a record that I ever want to meet again.  It was bone chilling cold the last few days.  We broke cold records all over the region.

Ouch, big ouch

I had a cortisone shot yesterday for my hip/pelvis injury from last year. Oh my, it didn't hurt much going in, but last night ouch ouch ouch. I hope it works.

So much for flu shot

Granted I don't know if it is flu or not. Dd was sick missed school Monday and tuesday. Wednesday night ds started puking and didn't stop till yesterday. Today he is at least responsive not in a stupor. I have a cold, dh says he has one too. He has been away working so I have been handling it all. Being sick sucks, looking after sickos sucks.

Gone Fishin

Image
How would you like to go fishing in this pond?

A whole entire month???

Where has October gone?  Well we went down to Great Falls from Oct 8 to 12.  Brakes went out in the van when we hit Lethbridge, so on a Friday of a long weekend we were finding a dealership to fix them.  Then at US customs they pulled DH out of the vehicle and put him in a locked room, and me and the kids in a different place, they did a dog search on the van.   Secondary check for some reason.  So our seven hour trip was almost 12. Spent the days, watching the kids play in the pool, nap, read, relax, and a little shopping.  Went to the littlest river and the kids loved the fish Hatchery. Came back home, and headed north to a two day accounting course on IFRS standards.,  When did accounting get so dull??  While I was in Edmonton, MIL fell again and bruised herself pretty badly but didn't break anything this time. Kids are driving me nuts,  if it isn't one, it seems to be the other.   Dreading the ending of fall and the onset of winter.  Calgary has already had snow.  I

A fall walk and a surprise

Image
First day in I don't know how long without rain. So I took advantage and went for a walk along the river.  I was rewarded with seeing something I have never ever seen in my entire life.  A live snake in the wild.  I have seen pet snakes, and snakes in zoos, but never have I seen one in the wild.  THis is a little garter snake.  (at least I think it is)  Hard to pick out among the fall foliage but it is there.

James Cameron to come to Alberta

Image
EDMONTON — James Cameron is coming to see Alberta’s oilsands for himself. In a letter to Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach, the Hollywood director says he has scheduled a three-day trip starting Sept. 27. “My goal for this visit is to learn as much as possible from industry executives, government officials and impacted communities in order to form my own independent conclusion about these operations,” Cameron writes. “As a native-born Canadian, I’m concerned about the criticism levelled at Alberta’s oilsands operations and eager to learn whether they are true or not, and if true, how they are being addressed by industry and government.” Cameron, who directed such movie hits as “Avatar,” “Aliens,” “Titanic” and “The Terminator,” says he wants to meet with oilsands company executives and if possible, tour one of the operations, on Sept. 28 in Fort McMurray. Later that day, Cameron says he plans to fly north to Fort Chipewyan to meet with community leaders. On Sept. 29, he says he’d like

Hepatitis A - what are the chances?

On our return from Great Falls, we stopped in Lethbridge for a night.  DS wanted McDonalds, (he always wants McDonalds), so he had his McDonalds and the DH, DD and I had Wok Box. Friday night DH comes home and asks me if I heard about the Hep A scare and a Mcdonalds in Lethbridge???  Ummm NO! So off we go googling, since we do not know Lethbridge well, we were not sure what McDonalds we had been at, or which McDonalds was the one in question.  The press said to call Health Link.  So I called health link,  found the actual McDonalds site, in the meantime DH and I figured out which McDonalds we had eaten at.  And you guessed it, it was the one that was contaminated.  What are the chances?  Health link highly recommended me driving to Calgary or Lethbridge the next day for the vacination.  That is a whole day for me.  But I was willing to do it for DS.  His health is to precarious at the best of times.  I gave health link all the info and left it at that.  Then an hour later they call

Death and Despair

There have been a lot of deaths of people this past spring and summer.  In some way or other they all touched my life. Sonia - wife of Tom, she died in her sleep, fast and unexpected and we lost a wonderful lady, a wonderful sense of humor. Steve - my cousin that  I really didn't know, but who was so good to my Mom, he dropped dead one day of a heart attack on the job Angie's Mom - our receptionists Mom, she had a massive heart attack on her first vacation, a cruise, and never recovered from the damage done.  It took a long painful month for her to finally pass. Bob - Gooch's Dad - four years to the day that Evelyn died of cancer, Bob died of a massive stroke before the cancer could take him. Norman - the closest person I ever had to a father figure.  He passed away the day I went on holidays and was buried while we were still away.  Mom didn't tell me until I got back.

Off on Holidays

So looking forward to some time to rejuvanate. See yall later.

August 12, 2010

My little girl has been 10 for a month already, now how did that happen? My seven year old updates me daily that he STILL does not have a loose tooth,  he is very upset about not having lost any yet. Kids have been in a variety of summer day camps all summer, as I am a working MOm, and Dad is a work away Dad. DD has done a science camp at the local college, a dance camp, a girls rock camp, a sleep away camp, a week at Sunny Brook farm and museum, a climbing camp, and of course her summer will end with a whole week at a girl guide camp.  (She is willing to miss one week of family vacation to go to it.) DS has been in a sports camp at the local college, did a Kinship camp with the Learning Disabilities Society,  been in the general sport camps at our local sports faciltiy (swim, gym, gymnastics, climbing etc), and two weeks at Sunny brook farm and museum.  That should be seven each.  It is expensive, very expensive, but I know they are well taken care of and they get to do so m

DD Published

Image
DD poem Hamburgers was picked and published in the book: Over The Moon, A collection of Poems written by young Canadians. She is to put it mildly Over the Moon at being published. I am so proud of her. Of all the schools to enter, her elementary school was picked 3rd best in Canada. I think that is pretty awesome. It was a student teacher doing a practicum that encouraged and helped the kids. That bit of enthusiasum has made a huge difference to my daughter. Congrats Alexis.

I am officially published

I am excited to announce I am offically published. The summer edition of Canadian Scrapbooker published one of my favorite LO ever. I am so happy to see it in print.

March and the kids are riding bikes

March and the kids are riding bikes among or should I say around the snow banks. Kids both needed new bikes this year, so we picked them up on sale and they wanted to try them out. Been around the block a couple times in the last few weeks. But Saturday and SUnday they rode, and I walked over to the open walking sidewalk, and let them go, a little wet, but no ice and no snow. Saturday they probably did 5 miles, yesterday probably did closer to ten. And that is with DS still with training wheels on. I hobble as far as I can then just park myself keep them in my line of sight and let them go. On a really exciting note, DH got qualified for a radio contest for a trip to the Coca Cola 600 in May. OMG OMG OMG, I think I would faint if we won. Please cross some fingers and toes for us.

I am so excited, and I just can't hide it:

I received a wonderful email: Congratulations! I would like to request one of your fabulous designs to be published in our upcoming Summer issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker magazine that will be released June 1 2010.
