Spring Alberta Style

Friday was the first day of spring. The typical melt, flooding of the creek in town, and then today this:

Heavy snow with 15 to 30 centimetres accumulation, freezing rain and blowing snow expected today. This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions...Listen for updated statements.



An intense low pressure system from Montana is moving into Saskatchewan today generating heavy snowfall and freezing rain in southern Alberta. So far the west side of the City of Calgary has received 25 centimetres of snow while Red Deer has received about 11 centimetres. Over Springbank 31 centimetres of snow has been reported.

Over Coronation freezing rain is still expected over the eastern section this morning and then changing to snow. A total of 10 centimetres can be expected by this evening.

Oh my! what a lovely start to spring!!!! It's weird how your new season is starting partway through the month - all of our seasons begin with the start of a new month i.e., Autumn commences on the 1st March, Winter commences on the 1st June etc. etc.
