Manly Cars

Top ten manly cars AskMen.com - Thomas Bey In honour of Male Appreciation Day, let’s acknowledge the rides that have an overt manly presence and make no apologies for it. In other words: Don't expect to see any Miatas on this manly cars list. The manly cars that did make this list aren't exclusively new cars or old cars, and a few aren't even cars at all. And just so we're clear, this isn't all about horsepower or raw performance numbers. The 10 manly cars that make this top 10 are here because of their character, whether they’re among the fastest in the world or they struggle to keep up on the freeway. No.10 - Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser © Wikimedia Commons 1960-1984 To look at Toyota's portly 2008 Land Cruiser, you don't immediately think 'manly car'. Go back awhile and consider the old two-door version, the Japanese Jeep known as the FJ40 Land Cruiser. Once upon a time, owners subjected their Land Cruisers to tougher duty than navigating mall parkin

Monday Meanderings

DD starts dance camp today for spring break, she is off school until next monday. DS is sure to tell me how not fair it is that he has to go to kindergarten while she gets to go to camp. Next year both will be in camp. We were revisited by winter yesterday, today it is sunny and melting. So typical of Alberta weather.

Spring Alberta Style

Friday was the first day of spring. The typical melt, flooding of the creek in town, and then today this: Warnings Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler 10:38 AM MDT Sunday 22 March 2009 Winter storm warning for Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler continued Heavy snow with 15 to 30 centimetres accumulation, freezing rain and blowing snow expected today. Honors for DD

DD received honors for her third report this year, she also pulled her C in gym up to a B. Way to go sweetie. She was finally feeling better on Sunday after being sick all last week. Yesterday it was off to Edmonton to take her to the Stollery Childrens Hospital to see a pediatric dermatologist. Two hour drive there and back, close to two hours in the waiting room, for approx. a 4 minute consult. arrrggggg gotta hate that. so some prescriptions and new stuff to try. Kids had a blast at west edmonton mall amusement park, and the sea life caverns. Mom took DS golfing while I had DD at the hospital. (I am not going all that way and time without having some fun)

My week of Friday the 13th's

Been a rough week. DD was able to sing with the RD Symphany Orchestra on Monday night. It was an awesome opportunity and the kids enjoyed it so much. DS wasn't to enthralled with going. After the very first song, he says in that, louder than ever, 5 year old voice, that didn't take long, can we go now? Laughter all around on that one. DD told me she had fallen asleep in class at school, and her throat hurt. She did not eat supper. I thought the sore throat was from singing. During the night she wakes me up. SHe was burning with fever. So Tuesday morning I head off to the walk in clinic. I decide to take DS with me to avoid the fight of having him go to daycare. Last week twice he told me he had "nails" in his ears. He said they didn't hurt, he didn't act like they hurt. I wondered if he had put something in them. I ask the doctor to take a look when DD was being looked at. DD has strep. Not good. Strep terrifies me, my niece had strep turn int

Monday Mornings

Time change really caught up with us today. Morning came way way too early. DD was grumpy and so tired she wouldn't eat. It is a big day for her, she is singing tonight with the RD Symphany Orchestra. I hope she eats at school today. DS would not get ready this morning, physically fought me the entire way. Ended up being carried kicking and screaming outside with just his pants and shirt on in -30 weather and going in a cold vehicle to kindergarten that way. T I owe you big for stepping in and taking him from me this morning. Then I get the big lecture at work about not doing my job right. Just what I need is job insecurity right now. And the little things get you the most eh? I broke my brand new necklace.

West Edmonton Mall

We hit the amusement park on Saturday, I almost hurled on the spinner and the galleon. The lack of sleep and food really caught up with me. Going to the Eagles in concert. It was probably a fantastic concert, I just could not enjoy it under the circumstances. Sunday we hit the sea caverns, the waterpark, and the putt n glow golf. Had something to eat and headed home. The highways were bad but not as bad as saturday.

Crappy Alberta Weather.

Our long anticipated trip to Edmonton. What a farce. I should have just called it totally off. We had the concert tickets, the hotel booked and paid for as we knew weather like this could happen. I ultimately decided to make the decision and go as I didn't want to disappoint the kids. A 21 car pileup including three semi's, thank god H was driving as he managed to get stopped in the shoulder and not get caught by any other vehicles, 33 in all were involved. So glad to get to the hotel. Motorists in the Edmonton area may be in store for another white-knuckled drive today. A combination of flurries and temperatures fluctuating above and below zero iced up roads over the weekend. And while crews have been cleaning city streets, the mercury is expected to remain below - 20 C as the new week begins. Winter weather conditions led to a few delays at the Edmonton International Airport yesterday, said spokesman Traci Bednard. "But it was certainly much better than it was (Sa

Friday Fireworks

The minute DH walked in the door we were fighting. Did it in front of DD, well she had been in another room then walked in on us fighting. Got her off to Brownie Camp and then it started up all over again. DS stayed out of the room, but it just got worse and worse. One of only a few times I have been in fear of my safety. I said the words out loud, that it is over, that we might as well live individually. The fight just went on and on. I am not sure even though he physicall heard the words it is over, that he actually heard them. He got even drunker and headed to his bed. I was beyond sleep, and the stress kills me. I was up until an hour before we had to leave for Edmonton. Needless to say we left late, as I was the one doing all the preparing for the trip. DD had a great time at the Brownie Camp. Thank heavens she had been out of the house Friday night. I do know my life will be changing tremendously in the future as will be the kids lives. If you could send us some pra

What did you do?

I hate those words. I get home push the button on the garage door opener and it doesn't open. I think out of batteries. Leave the vehicle with DS in it, in the middle of the back alley. And go in the little garage door to open it. Push the button and the door doesn't go up. arggggg I try everything I know to try and get it fixed. Call DH, tell him not to get pissy, ask him how to fix it. He starts off at me, then I hear horn honking. Have to go and move the vehicle out of the back alley. Did I mention it is -15 with a wind chill of -28. Call DH back, I get a typical male response. What did you do? arrrgggggg, he says pull the red thing and see if it works.... I tried that didn't work. Arrrgggg, So pull the other thingy. So he get pissed off and marterish, he says he will come in to fix it. Why the hell would he drive for over two hours to fix it, I can park outside for one night. I see my neighbor outside, I ask him. He comes over we are trying to figure it out. Then he see

March came in like a lamb

Sunday was gorgeous, a beautiful day, melting all over the place as was yesterday. Today it is snowing. A heavy snowfall warning is out for us. I need to keep my mouth shut when teasing my US buddies about them not knowing what to do with snow. LOL DS has officially joined a Beaver troop. (Scouts for 5-7 year olds). We did a field trip to a grocery store for a tour last night. He was awesome, well behaved, polite, not touching things. DD has gained major attitude. I asked her what would the Owls (leaders at brownies) say if they new she talked to me like that? She said they wouldn't approve. Ya think? We are going to Edmonton this weekend. Spending the night at West Edmonton Mall and going to the Eagles concert. Should be a blast.
